Wallace Sweeps SEC and NFCA Player of the Week Awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida softball redshirt-junior Skylar Wallace earned Southeastern Conference and Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Player of the Week honors after she posted a historic week at the plate.
The Woodstock, Ga. native is the first Florida player to sweep the SEC Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week since Kendyl Lindaman during the 2019 season and she is only the fourth hitter in program history to be named Louisville/Slugger NFCA Player of the Week.
In addition, this is Wallace's third SEC Player of the Week award which is the first time a UF hitter has earned the award three times during the same season since Kelsey Bruder did it in 2011. Wallace and Bruder are the only two hitters in Florida history to win the award three times during the same season.
Wallace is also the only player in the SEC to take home multiple player of the week honors this year.
The talented redshirt-junior hit .800 (8-for-10) on the week with four home runs, eight runs scored and eight RBI to go along with seven walks and three stolen bases. Wallace's week started 2-for-3 performance in a midweek against UNF where she ripped her nation-leading eighth triple of the season that tied her for third with Cheyenne Lindsey in the UF single-season record book.
The left-handed shortstop was just heating up as she entered the series against then ranked No. 12 Georgia. Wallace had a career night at the plate as she went 4-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBI. The four-hits, three home runs and seven RBI were all career-highs, but the three home runs also were tied for the UF single-game record held by Briana Little (Feb. 22, 2015 - vs. Mercer) and Taylore Fuller (March 14, 2015 - vs. LSU). The seven RBI are also tied for the third most by a Florida player, which includes Charla Echols' seven RBI performance against Mercer this year.
Wallace belted her fourth home run in game two of the series with the Bulldogs and she ended the weekend with a career-high three walks in the series finale Sunday.
