Bama claims women's and men's SEC cross country titles

OXFORD, Miss. (Oct. 28, 2022)-----The University of Alabama claimed the 2022 Southeastern Conference men's and women's cross country titles at the SEC Championships here Friday morning at the Ole Miss Golf Course.

This marks the fourth SEC crown for the Alabama men and the first since 2009. The Alabama women's team claimed its third SEC title and first since 1987. The Crimson Tide men are ranked No. 22 nationally, while the women are ranked seventh.

Florida's Parker Valby claimed the women's individual 6K title with a time of 18:25.87, while Alabama's Mercy Chelangat was second in 18:33.65. Hilda Olemomoi was third in 18:54.11. Alabama's Victor Kiprop took home the men's 8K title in 22:38.94, ahead of Tennessee's Dylan Jacobs (22:42.94) and Yaseen Abdalla (22:45.57).

Alabama won the women's title with 36 points, followed by Arkansas (74), Ole Miss (83), Kentucky (122) and Florida (147) to round out the top-five.

The Alabama men won with 59 points, finishing ahead of Tennessee (64), Arkansas (64), Ole Miss (65) and fifth place Texas A&M (126).

The NCAA Cross Country Regionals are scheduled to take place Friday, Nov. 11.
