Alabama uses quick start, dominates Liberty

KATY, Texas - The Alabama women's basketball team defeated the Liberty Flames, 72-47, Sunday inside the Merrell Center to conclude the Betty Chancellor Classic. With the win, the Crimson Tide finishes the event with a 2-1 record, including a 78-73 win over No. 20/15 Louisville on Friday, and improves to 7-1 on the season.

The Tide's Aalyiah Nye, who finished with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting in Sunday's win, was named to the All-Tournament Team.Nye combined for 32 points, four rebounds and seven steals during the tournament.

Karly Weathers provided the spark off the bench for Alabama, matching Nye with a team-high 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including three-pointers. Both Nye and Weathers were two of five UA players to pick up double digits in the victory, including Loyal McQueen (10), Essence Cody (10) and Jessica Timmons (10). Cody led the team with seven rebounds, including five defensive boards.

  • Alabama flipped the script after early shooting struggles in its loss against Gonzaga, shooting 64 percent (9-14) from the floor and 60 percent (3-5) from deep in the opening period, taking a 16-point lead, 24-8, into the second
  • The Tide continued to put the ball in the basket, extending the lead to 21 points, 43-22, going into the break
  • Aaliyah Nye led UA at the half with 10 points, with Karly Weathers providing a spark off the bench with three first-half threes
  • UA didn't look back, going on a 9-0 run over the final three minutes of the third period, extending the lead to 31 points headed into the final quarter
